Opus Celebrates Women in Technology: Meet Petra
As an agency with an internal tech team that primarily serves technology clients, we are huge fans of women in tech. We understand the unique obstacles women in the tech industry face, and we’re proud to highlight our female tech team members who are thriving. In this installment of Opus Women in Tech, get to know Technical Project Manager, Petra Fasana.
Where did you go to school and what did you study?
I graduated from the University of Portland, with a Business Degree in Business Management and Marketing.
What led you to a career in tech?
I happened to stumble into the events industry on behalf of a close friend. For 8 years, I worked at a small events agency in Northern California, with a 30+ city roadshow as my first project. Since it was a small agency, you quickly learned to wear many hats; I fully managed the build of registration sites, sometimes built registration sites myself with our proprietary software, coordinated F&B, sleeping rooms, onsite execution, and more. This was where I discovered the Event Registration niche. I started noticing that there was a need in the industry for professionals who understood the technical registration site builds as well as event management logistics, and found Opus had that need as well .
What do you enjoy about your job and the tech industry in general?
I love that every day is different! I’m always problem-solving and finding new ways to use technology as a tool to solve a puzzle. I also enjoy being pushed to be creative, and finding out-of-the-box solutions .
What do you think is the future for women in tech?
I hope to see a better representation of women in the technical industry, for my own daughters. I want them to be able to see examples of women in Technology who have a seat at the table and are given the opportunity to bring a new and different perspective to the industry.
What is something awesome happening in the tech industry right now?
Facial recognition software! Especially when it’s used for registration check-in. We just wrapped up CEMA Summit this year, and worked with a vendor (and fellow CEMA sponsor), ITN International, who showcased their facial recognition technology for CEMA Summit attendees .
