Destination Edit: Exploring APAC

Six new destinations on our global tour.
Editor’s Note: Welcome to the second edition of our newest series, Destination Edit. Each quarter, our venue sourcing and incentive teams share their top picks for the most desirable meeting destinations in the world. From the hidden gems to the global hotspots, this quarterly edit equips you with the latest trends in corporate travel.

In today’s business climate, where budget constraints and shorter planning timelines dominate the conversation, APAC is emerging as a prime destination for corporate events.

Jacqui Le Crerar, Senior Business Operations Manager at Opus Agency London, noted at the recent M&C Asia Connections 2024, “Clients are eager to return to events but are cautious about spending, and timelines have become much shorter. We're seeing a growing interest in [APAC], where competitive rates and world-class infrastructure offer tremendous value.”

Destinations like Singapore, China, and India offer cost-effective solutions for conferences, while Fiji, New Zealand, and Thailand provide unforgettable yet affordable incentive trips. Whether you’re looking to host your next conference or president’s club, here are six APAC locations to consider for your brand experience.

Corporate Event Destinations: Where Innovation Meets Affordability

Singapore

Singapore is a sunny, tropical island in Southeast Asia, off the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula. It is about 275 square miles, smaller than the state of Rhode Island, and inhabited by over five million people. The resident population comprises four major communities: Chinese, Malay, Indian, and Eurasian

As a global hub, Singapore blends modernity with a rich cultural heritage, making it one of the top choices for corporate events. With world-class infrastructure, top-notch venues, and a commitment to sustainability, this destination offers endless possibilities for event planners seeking to inspire and engage their teams.

Having just wrapped three incredible events in Singapore, our team can’t help but feel inspired by the innovation and energy this city offers. From data computing to Web3/blockchain and life sciences, Singapore is a standout event destination for any industry.

Here are five reasons we recommend Singapore to our clients:

  1. Culture: A true cultural melting pot, Singapore integrates Chinese, Malay, Indian, and Western influences. Incorporate these cultures into your event with performances like a traditional lion dance or an immersive Peranakan dinner, enriching attendees’ experiences and creating memorable moments.
  2. Accessibility: Known for its global connectivity, Singapore offers direct flights from major cities worldwide, with Changi Airport consistently ranked as one of the best in the world. Once on the island, Singapore's seamless public transport system ensures smooth travel for event attendees across the city.
  3. Venues: From iconic locations like Marina Bay Sands and its luxurious meeting spaces to the eco-friendly Park Royal Pickering Hotel (our team gives both properties a five-star rating), Singapore offers an array of versatile venues. Whether hosting at the historic Raffles Hotel or amidst the futuristic Supertrees at Gardens by the Bay, you’ll find the perfect setting to elevate your event.
  4. Unique Experiences: Host a cocktail party at Marina Bay Sands SkyPark with panoramic city views, organize a team-building day at Sentosa Island, or plan a networking event at the Night Safari, the world’s first nocturnal zoo.
  5. Sustainability: Singapore leads the way in sustainability with green-certified venues and eco-conscious initiatives. Consider hosting an eco-friendly event at locations like Marina Bay Sands to demonstrate your organization’s commitment to a greener future.

Bangalore, India

Bangalore, often called the "Silicon Valley of India," is a prime destination for innovation-driven corporate events. The city’s thriving tech ecosystem, characterized by startups and innovation, is complemented by its lush green spaces and pleasant climate.

Bangalore's charm goes beyond its modern tech landscape, including a diverse culinary scene, arts and cultural festivals, and historical landmarks. Its emphasis on sustainability and welcoming atmosphere make it a great location for balancing business with leisure.

After recently executing several events here, including two programs for a data platform company and a top data streaming platform, Opus Agency is fired up by the possibilities this city offers.

Here are five reasons we love Bangalore:

  1. Culture: As a melting pot of cultures, Bangalore blends its traditional South Indian heritage with its cosmopolitan vibe. Infuse your event with local flavors by incorporating traditional Carnatic music or a Bharatanatyam dance performance.
  2. Accessibility: Bangalore is well-connected, with the Kempegowda International Airport offering national and international flights. Whether attendees fly in from across India or from the other side of the globe, Bangalore’s accessibility ensures easy travel to and from the city.
  3. Venues: Bangalore has a range of venues, from luxurious hotels like the Ritz-Carlton and Taj West End, offering elegant spaces with state-of-the-art facilities, to more serene locations like Lalbagh Botanical Garden. ITC Gardenia, known for its high-end amenities and nearby cutting-edge tech parks like Electronic City, is also an excellent choice for tech events. The Sheraton Grand Bengaluru Whitefield Hotel & Convention Center is an Opus Agency team favorite, with 69,450 square feet of event space.
  4. Unique Experiences: Cubbon Park and Nandi Hills are incredible offsite experiences that allow attendees to explore ancient temples. South Indian cuisine is another highlight, offering attendees a delicious cultural experience from culinary workshops to authentic regional meals.
  5. Sustainability: Bangalore is emerging as a leader in sustainable event practices, with a growing focus on eco-friendly initiatives. Many venues, such as ITC Gardenia, incorporate green-certified measures like energy conservation, waste management, and LEED certifications.

Hong Kong, China

A fusion of Eastern and Western cultures, Hong Kong is a bustling business hub that attracts global professionals. Its financial sector, iconic skyline, and ease of accessibility make it a standout destination for corporate events, blending prestige with cultural richness. Opus Agency is headed to Asia’s World City very soon with a leading Web3/blockchain company expanding into the regional market.

Here are five key reasons Hong Kong shines as a corporate event destination:

  1. Culture: To add cultural depth to your gathering, incorporate traditional Chinese elements like a dragon dance performance and dine-around at Sha Tau Kok or Temple Street. For an immersive cultural experience, consider organizing a Tai Chi session at Kowloon Park or a Night Bus Tour for a journey through Hong Kong.
  2. Accessibility: Hong Kong International Airport is one of the world’s busiest, providing convenient access from nearly every corner of the globe. Once in the city, the efficient MTR system ensures easy navigation, making it simple for attendees to move between venues and experience the city’s key attractions.
  3. Venues: Whether you're hosting a large-scale trade show or an intimate executive meeting, Hong Kong offers exceptional venue options. The iconic Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) and Shared Harbourfront are ideal for large conferences, while luxury hotels like Hopewell Hotel and Kerry Hotel, two of the largest five-star hotels in the city (and our personal favorites), offer high-end, versatile spaces with stunning city views.
  4. Unique Experiences: Host a networking cocktail reception aboard a traditional junk boat cruising through Victoria Harbour or a gathering at Sky100 Observation Deck, which offers panoramic views of the city skyline.
  5. Sustainability: Hong Kong is making impressive strides in sustainability, with an increasing number of venues adopting eco-friendly practices. Partner with green-certified spaces like the Asia Society Hong Kong Center to integrate sustainability into your event.

Incentive Destinations: Where Aspiration Meets Accessibility

When it comes to incentive programs, APAC offers dream destinations that combine luxury with immersive experiences, all at a more affordable cost, thanks to favorable exchange rates.

Fiji

Fiji offers an idyllic tropical escape, combining luxury, adventure, and incredible value—making it the perfect spot for your next corporate incentive trip. Your team can step off the plane into a paradise of sun-soaked beaches, coral reefs, and lush rainforests. Whether snorkeling among colorful marine life or relaxing on white sandy shores, Fiji promises an extraordinary experience that inspires and motivates your top performers.

Fiji is one of our favorite incentive destinations—perfect for any president’s club program. Here are five compelling reasons why Fiji should top your list for incentive travel:

  1. Culture: Fijian hospitality is warm, genuine, and deeply rooted in rich traditions. Your team can immerse themselves in the local culture through unique experiences like participating in lively Kava ceremonies or enjoying a traditional Meke dance performance.
  2. Accessibility: While Fiji feels like a secluded paradise, it is surprisingly accessible. For teams based in the Americas, it’s a manageable ten-hour flight from Los Angeles. Travelers from Asia-Pacific regions can expect a quick flight from Sydney or Tokyo. At the same time, those from Europe can enjoy seamless travel with connections from major hubs like London or Paris.
  3. Venues: Fiji is home to several luxurious yet affordable resorts that cater to incentive groups. Our personal favorite, the InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa, is nestled along the stunning Natadola Bay. This resort offers 226 elegantly designed rooms and suites, world-class golf, and breathtaking ocean views. With its reef-protected lagoon, the beach is perfect for relaxation and team-building activities.
  4. Unique Experiences: For those seeking adventure, experiences like the Sigatoka River Safari, zip-lining through the rainforest, or river tubing provide excitement and camaraderie. Those looking for relaxation can unwind on the pristine sands of Natadola Beach or enjoy spa treatments at one of the island’s luxurious resorts.
  5. Sustainability: Fiji is committed to sustainable tourism. Many resorts, including the InterContinental, practice eco-friendly measures like using renewable energy and reducing plastic.

New Zealand

New Zealand is a premier destination for corporate incentives, offering breathtaking scenery, adrenaline-pumping activities, and luxury accommodations. Whether you're planning a reward trip for top performers or a team-building retreat, New Zealand offers a variety of experiences that cater to all tastes and interests. Having recently wrapped an incentive program with a leading cloud-based software company in Auckland, NZ, our team is enamored with the endless options this country offers.

Here are five key reasons why New Zealand stands out to our team—and why it’s the perfect choice for your next corporate incentive destination:

  1. Culture: New Zealand’s rich Māori culture adds a unique and immersive element to any incentive trip. Manaakitanga—warm hospitality—is deeply rooted in Māori tradition and can be felt throughout the country. Incorporating cultural experiences like traditional welcomes (pōwhiri)Haka performances, and Māori storytelling adds depth and purpose to your team’s journey. These cultural exchanges foster a sense of connection, community, and respect for the land.
  2. Accessibility: Though New Zealand is geographically remote, it is easily accessible via direct flights from major hubs like Los Angeles, Sydney, Tokyo, and London. Once in the country, New Zealand’s compact size makes it easy to travel between cities and natural wonders, enabling groups to experience various landscapes and activities within a single trip.
  3. Venues: New Zealand offers an exceptional array of hotels and venues that make it an ideal destination for incentive trips. From luxurious retreats like The Rees Hotel and Rosewood Matakauri, nestled along the tranquil shores of Lake Wakatipu, to one-of-a-kind experiences in iconic locations like Hobbiton, the country's offerings are both diverse and unique. Whether you prefer remote luxury or urban sophistication, New Zealand’s accommodations provide world-class service and exclusive, customized experiences.
  4. Unique Experiences: These top picks from our global sourcing team offer incredible ways to experience New Zealand. Soar through Waiheke Island’s rainforests on EcoZip’s zipline or race through stunning waters on Dart River Adventures’ jet boats. Take things up a notch with a helicopter ride to a glacier, where you’ll toast with champagne at the top. Or, enjoy a laid-back day cruising around Waiheke aboard the Paua Cat Catamaran, complete with top-notch service and incredible food.
  5. Sustainability: Sustainability is a core value in New Zealand, reflected in its commitment to preserving natural wonders. The Tiaki Promise encourages all visitors to care for the land, sea, and culture. Incentive programs can include eco-friendly initiatives such as wildlife conservation projects, eco-tours, and stays at environmentally conscious lodges.

Bangkok, Thailand

Bangkok is a dynamic city that effortlessly blends bustling urban life with serene cultural experiences, making it an ideal destination for corporate incentive programs. From iconic temples to luxury riverfront hotels, Bangkok offers a rich array of experiences that cater to all tastes. After recently delivering an event in Bangkok for a major life sciences brand, we can’t wait to return and explore more of what this vibrant city has to offer.

Here are five key reasons why Bangkok is the perfect incentive destination:

  1. Culture: Bangkok offers an unparalleled cultural immersion, with opportunities to explore the city's rich heritage. Incentive groups can visit iconic sites like Wat Pho and the Grand Palace, participate in private temple tours, or take a Thai cooking class. Activities like visiting the floating markets or attending traditional Thai performances allow participants to engage deeply with Thailand’s culture and history.
  2. Accessibility: Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi International Airport connects directly to major global hubs, while the city's BTS Skytrain, taxis, and river ferries ensure smooth transportation. Its central location is ideal for exploring Thailand, and the city offers exceptional value, allowing companies to create luxurious, memorable experiences—such as private yacht trips or gala dinners—at competitive prices.
  3. Venues: Bangkok is home to some of the world’s most luxurious hotels and venues, perfect for both business and leisure. The Four Seasons Bangkok at Chao Phraya River offers expansive event spaces, a world-class spa, and gourmet dining options, serving as the ideal base for exploring the city. Other renowned hotels like The Mandarin Oriental and The Peninsula provide top-tier conference facilities, rooftop bars, and stunning river views, creating the perfect setting for corporate events and relaxation.
  4. Unique Experiences: Bangkok is brimming with unique team-building and incentive activities. Groups can bond over Muay Thai boxing lessons and ATV tours or take a longtail boat ride along the Chao Phraya River. Immersive cooking classes and Michelin-star restaurants add an exciting flavor to any incentive trip, while after-hours networking can take place at the city’s chic rooftop lounges or riverfront bars.
  5. Sustainability: Bangkok is increasingly focusing on sustainability, with numerous initiatives aimed at reducing environmental impact. Many hotels and venues in the city have adopted eco-friendly practices, such as waste reduction programs, energy conservation measures, and water-saving technologies.
